And a Recipe....

Hello again, dear ones and good evening,

Well here I am writing twice in one day on my blog. With me it's either all or nothing I guess~LOLL! I have been thinking all day long about my earlier post. I don't want to leave any of you with the conclusion that I have given up or am in such a horrible condition that I have nothing else to give. I am just taking life much more slowly and thoughtfully than ever before. I thought that I might share a recipe with you for inspiration. It is something my family has always loved and I hope that your family will like it, as well:

Chicken Casserole

1 pkg. Pepperidge Farms Herb Seasoning stuffing
1 stick butter or margarine
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of mushroom OR cream of celery soup
3 to 4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts (cooked)

Save the broth that the chicken was cooked in and use it to dilute the soup according to the directions on the can (one can broth to one can soup). Combine the two soup mixtures together to make a sort of gravy. Cut the cooked chicken breasts into cubes about one inch square.  Melt the butter or margarine and stir it into the stuffing. In a greased 9 x 13 pan, put a layer of stuffing crumbs, chicken and then the soup mixture. Repeat the layers and then top the casserole with cracker crumbs and dot with butter. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour. No extra salt is necessary to use in this recipe. Serve with a salad or your favorite vegetables.

This recipe is easy to prepare and delicious! You can serve it with your favorite vegetable side dish or a fresh garden salad and your family will have a wonderful meal to remember. I hope you enjoy my little recipe. I hope to be back soon with more little blog posts for you, too.

Love and hugs,
Charlotte

Life As I Know It Today.....

Good Wednesday to you all my sweet cottage friends!

I am still not where I want to be with my posting on my dear little blog. I do love it here and remember a time where I wrote almost daily; or at least weekly....lol. My life has changed so much from those days. I was so very active and had so much energy, especially in the beginning. Heck, at one time I had 3 blogs going....one at Homeschool Blogger, one at Homestead Blogger and this one here. I loved to share recipes and homeschool adventures and all things decorating and such.

Then, Fibromyalgia came into my world. My life became filled with daily "pain scales", lots of naps on the sofa during the day, wearing only very comfortable clothes...mostly pajamas...and trying to find the right doctors, medications and herbal healing methods. I spend a lot of time on Facebook visiting with friends virtually as I just don't feel like getting out like I used to. I MISS my old life, but I try to remain positive and look for God's purpose in my new way of living. My mission on Facebook is to be encouraging to others and to pray for those who request it for themselves and for family members. I take this very seriously as a way to serve my Lord. Grow where you are planted is my motto.

My housework does not suffer too greatly as I do try very hard to work-a-little, rest-a-little every day to keep things up around here for my family and for my own sanity. I am the type of person who gets very depressed and agitated if my home is not up to a certain level of tidiness~haha. My cooking is becoming more and more simplified. I do still love my good old crock pot and casseroles, but I often find that pan-glazed meat and two side veggies are a more palatable choice for our supper now.

I do still like to read my Bible, my poetry books and my favorite devotional books. I do still make it out once a week for Women's Bible study group. We have a very special Christian bond among this wonderful group of Sisters and right now are studying women of the Bible. We just finished our study on Esther; one of my favorites! Each week we have a little luncheon after our study and time for fellowship together. It is my church time. I am not attending regular weekly services at our church but do pray that I will be back at them sometime soon. It is just a challenge to be in a large group of people right now as I do have anxiety issues and also cannot sit too close to people due to my body pain. This also applies to sitting for too long and also getting up and down for singing. I do have several Ministers that I listen to and watch each Sunday morning and my prayer life is stronger than ever.

I just had all of this on my heart and my mind and wanted to share it with those of you who do still stop by to read my humble little blog. I do not do this to make money or to be popular; I just blog because I enjoy reading your blogs and want to share things with others, too.

Love to all and Stay Cozy,
Charlotte

The Saturday Gazette.....New weekly update post...

I have been thinking lately of posting a weekly update of life around the cottage. I need it to be something simple so that I will keep doing it on a regular basis. I know myself well and if things seem too complicated then my chances of continuing writing them on a continuous schedule will not be good. After much consideration and planning I think I now have a few little headings that I can stay constant and faithful to posting within. Here we go with the first edition of my new Saturday Blogging Gazette. Wish me luck...lol!

Time: 11:12 AM EST

Weather: 40 degrees right now, expecting a high of 65 degrees; Precipitation 0%, Wind 2 MPH, Humidity 79%, Partly Sunny

Plans for Today: Not much. Maybe a little light housework, reading some poetry, playing on Facebook and You Tube, etc...

Drinking: COFFEE (What else~haha)

Eating: I had a cinnamon and raisin bagel for breakfast this morning~YUM!

Reading: The Bible, poetry, magazines

Listening to: Old Lawrence Welk Show episodes on You Tube; I have never outgrown them and have such sweet memories of watching them with my mom on Saturday night when I was growing up. <3 div="" nbsp="">

Family: We have news....our oldest grand-girl is expecting a little one!!! Yep, that will make me a "Great-grammy" at the tender age of 56! She just found out and is only 10 weeks along; please keep her and her new little family in your thoughts and prayers.

Well, that is all for this week. I think these categories will be something easy for me to keep up with so that my posts will be regular. I do love to come here and write from time to time and hope to do more in the coming months. I know it has been a LONG time since I have posted with any consistency and I am sorry for that. Time just goes rushing past me and the days are gone before I know it. Hope you are all well and having a sweet Saturday. Sending you all my love, hugs and prayers.

The Simple Woman's Daybook; My Entry for January

For Today

I am posting a Daybook entry for the first time in long while. I used to post once a week at one time but have gotten out of the habit and am thinking that I might try my best to post an entry at least once a month. I do not take many photos anymore; it just seems to be so tedious that I tend to leave my camera in its case. I suppose it is in direct response to my deep desire to simplify my life back to the bare basics of daily activities. Maybe I will be inspired to get in more snapshots as the months go by.

Looking out my window

It is sunny right now here in Dunbar, WV, USA. We are supposed to get rain some time around 2:00 pm that will continue into the night time. The snow we had a few days ago has almost completely melted away. There is only a little patch still hanging on in the very shaded spots around us after yesterday's temperatures in the 40s and low 50s.

Snow a few days ago...
I am thinking

I have been in a very melancholy mood over the past few days; feeling extremely nostalgic and longing for loved ones no longer with us. I took a little time day-before-yesterday to look through a box of old greeting cards. I felt great delight, warm and endearing emotions from reading each one. I have been so very blessed with so many loved ones around me throughout my lifetime.

I am thankful

Oh my, for so many wonderful blessings. I was especially thankful yesterday for all of my dear Christian friends at our weekly women's Bible study. It is always such a treat to get together with them for fellowship and a chance to learn more about God's word and each other.

One of my favorite things

The beautiful Angel filled curio given to me by my wonderful cousin when she moved last year. This is her collection of angels gathered and gifted to her all through the years. Such a special and meaningful gift and a perfect addition to our living room.

I am creating

I will be making some miniature food for my grand-girl's doll house with her as she is coming to spend the weekend with us on Friday. We will also be making some cookies and coloring together, too. We always have such fun together! I love all of my dear grands and even more as they are growing into such special young adults!
I am wearing

My favorite, comfy old work around the house clothes. I may change into my jeans in a bit, though.

I am reading

Lots of poetry books, Ideals magazines (from long ago) and a little devotional book that my mom gave me back in 1996 entitled Joy For the Journey. I read the day's entry each night right before falling asleep. So very comforting!

I am hoping

That 2017 will be a year of Spiritual growth for me, the year that I finally make it back into weekly Church services on a regular basis. I have been out of congregational worship with my fellow sisters and brothers in Christ for almost 3 years now. I contribute this mostly to my social anxiety, panic attacks and my Fibromyalgia pain and lethargy. I do have a three ministers which I listen to on Sunday mornings; Brett Hickey from Let the Bible Speak, Phil Sanders of In Search of the Lord's Way and Charles Stanley of In Tough Ministries. I learn so much about our Lord's word from them all, but I am feeling a real need lately to re-connect with our local church home.

I am learning

All over again that no man is an island and I NEED the strength, love and prayers of others in my life beyond just my immediate family members.

In my kitchen

I am planning on making a chicken casserole for our supper tonight. I made good old Sloppy Joe sandwiches with cheese for our supper last night and served them with some healthy peas-n-carrots on the side instead of our usual french fries. We are trying to eat more veggies this year.

In the school room

Not much going on in our homeschool life right now. My one and only student is now a senior. He is attending a class in Computor Repair and Programming at the local Technical School near our home. We still do some lessons in Social Studies, Science, Reading and Language Arts here, but his Math all takes place within the studies there. I am both sad and glad that this will be our last year of Homeschool. It seems like only yesterday that our journey began...
In my garden

We are just now beginning to plan for what we will be planting this year. I am leaning toward a few tomato plants, some large bell pepper varieties, garlic, and cucumbers. We do box and container gardening so not too much will be planted, but it is always wonderful to have those fresh veggies in the summer and some to go into the freezer for winter.

Board room

What in the world did we EVER do without Pinterest??? LOL!!! I could literally spend HOURS on there looking at and pinning so many pretty pictures onto my ever-growing number of boards! I do not post a lot of original photos on there, I am usually that person who goes through picking out lovely things to post so that I can look at them later. Today I am sharing a picture that came to my attention and is pinned on my board entitled Candy Dishes. My mother collected pretty candy dishes and loved to give them as gifts. This board contains pictures of some like the ones she had and it is so much fun to find even more pretty ones out there. Here is the picture:

Post Script

Each morning I try to greet my friends and family on FB with something pretty. One of my very favorite pages to share from is Beneath the Shadow of Thy Wings. They always post so many lovely and meaningful greetings there.

A moment from my day

The latest addition to my home office. This picture was taken by the lady who restored it in her shop, but it now sits in the corner of my home office!!! I am using it to store art supplies and a few pieces of favorite clothing. It is a real gem!!!

Closing Notes

I have really felt challenged by posting this morning. My mind has had a good workout as I took the time to come up with the material I have shared with you all this morning. I have another blogging friend who has started posting a weekly journal entry on her blog. I may try to start doing something similar; just simple details of our weekly life. I do still love to read blogs but I am not real good at adding comments as my social anxiety makes me afraid of saying the wrong thing or somehow being misconstrued by the reader. I do say a prayer where they are asked for and have my blog friends on my mind very often. I hope that those who love to write journal posts will take a minute to visit Peggy at The Simple Woman  blog and get the prompts from her at The Simple Woman's Daybook Community so that you can write your own entry. A big Thank You to Peggy for continuing to provide this wonderful avenue for our blogging experience. Hope that you all have a wonderful day!

Pretty House Plans....dream a little dream with me......

Good morning, sweet friends!

I got up this morning and got my son off to his class at Vocational school, had some coffee and toast and started reading my email~yes, I still do email in the mornings~lol! I get a lot of your blog posts by email link and I love to read through them each morning. I also get some from various web sites I have subscribed to through the years and I do admit that there are WAY too many of those. Sometimes I read them and sometimes they get deleted. Whether or not I read those depends on a few factors; how long it has been since I last visited the site, how interested I am in the content of their email and (most importantly) my mood that particular morning. This morning I got an email from e-plans and decided to see what was new over there. I do enjoy looking at their beautiful house plans and dreaming a bit. This one really caught my eye:

Queen Anne 5 Bedroom 2 Story

Isn't it GORGEOUS! I love the turret, the wrap-around porch and all that beautiful trim work! It is a total of 4,988 square feet of living space which is WAY more than we need, but it is nice to dream about all of the family gathering here for holidays and birthday dinners!!! If you want to know more about it just click on this link:

I hope that you are all having a beautiful day and are enjoying this last full month of summer time. We have 38 days until it is officially Autumn again! I am really looking forward to those cooler days here! Until next time....

Feelin' Pretty...

Picture from August 2015
of my new shorter haircut

Good morning dear friends,

I just got back from getting my monthly hair cut and boy, does that feel GREAT!!! I went back to really short hair one year ago and have never regretted it a bit. When my hair was at its longest it came down below my shoulders and I had enjoyed it, at first. Over time and through a LOT of family illnesses and issues with us and our aging parents I had gotten into the habit of just pulling it up into a high ponytail every time I had to hurry out the door. It was always in my face when it was down and I was tired of it being hot on my neck all the time, too. Anyway, after momma passed away I was ready for a change and had it cut to a pretty chin-length style that I liked fairly well, but it did require more time for styling and more "product" than I had used for a while~lol! One day I was looking at pictures of my pretty cousins from North Carolina on Facebook and thought, "you know, I think I would like to go short like them...it was really easy to care for when I wore it that way"...and so here I am, back to being "short-n-sassy" again! I love my sweet beautician, she can cut hair in her sleep! That girl is not only really great with the cut but she is quick with the scissors, too and has a heart of gold. It is always such a pleasure to step into her pretty shop. Makes me a happy, happy girl! :-)
So, last night I was inspired in the kitchen and made a homemade chicken pot pie for our supper. I took one large chicken breast and cut it up into cubes, browned it in my large frying pan with one half  chopped onion and seasoned it with seasoned salt, chicken seasoning and a little pepper. While that was going on lower heat I mixed up a can of cream of chicken soup with water (you could use milk) and a package of chicken gravy mix and set it to the side. I took out a bag of frozen Normandy Blend vegetables from out at SAM'S Club (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and yellow squash) and put that in the pan with the chicken and the onions and then poured the soup mixture over it all and put the lid on it and lowered the heat to medium low~I have a gas range so I kind of eyeball the flame height to know what that is. While that was warming through I made the easiest, most all-purpose dough on the planet~biscuit dough~for the crust. I like this easy recipe: 2 cups self-rising flour, 1/3 cup oil and 3/4 cup milk. Mix your wet ingredients in a measuring cup and place your flour in a medium sized mixing bowl. Put a well in the middle of your flour and pour the wet ingredients into the well. Mix gently with a spoon until all the flour is moistened. Then I turned it out onto a well floured board, put a little flour on top of it and rolled it into an approximate 9"x 13" shape. This recipe is so versatile that I now use it for everything: pizza crust, dumplings, pie crust and more. Now, after I made the crust, I put the chicken and veggies into a 9"x 13" pan and rolled the crust over the top of it. I cut little slits into the crust and baked it in the oven at 400 degrees for 15 minutes~you could go a little longer if you like a browner crust. It was REALLY good and easier than it sounds. I put it together in about 20 minutes so that it was a total of 35 minutes from start to finish.
It looks like it is getting ready to rain here. We had one quick hard rain fall right before I left for the beauty shop this morning. It did feel like it cooled things off a little but it was still a bit humid out there. We really had some HOT days here last week but this week is looking better with temps in the 80s. I can handle that pretty well, I just don't like it when we head into the 90s and above~too hot for me! I am looking forward to the cooler days of autumn and hope that we have pretty colors on our mountains this year. But we will have to get through August first and I am not rushing things. Life is too short as it is.
Well, I think I will close for today but am sending you all bunches of love and wishes for a beautiful day. Feel free to leave me comments below as I really enjoy hearing from you all. For now...

This is Our Life

Good morning, sweet blog friends,

Here in WV the sun is shining, the cat has been fed, I have my coffee and have been visiting friends on Facebook; life is good! Not a lot that is new around here; we did go out to eat at our favorite Chinese restaurant yesterday evening and took a little drive. That is one of our very favorite things to do. We usually keep the eating out to once a month and then I cook the rest of the month.  I am hoping to start taking my little camera out with me whenever we go for drives to capture some photos for my blog like I used to. I do like to include pictures with my posts. My husband made our monthly shopping trip to SAM'S Club earlier in the day yesterday and bought our meat and supplies for the month. He has been separating and re-packing the meat into smaller portions this morning using the vacuum sealer. That thing is a real food saver!
Our son will be starting to classes at a local Vocational Tech school on Monday! He is a senior this year and still a home school student. I am so glad that he has done so well with his schooling and is now looking to the future and making plans about what he wants to do for a carreer. He has LOTS of dreams and hopes for the future and would love to someday edit video games, movies, videos and more. He has even said that it would be fun to do some voice-over work, too. But for now he will be studying computer programming and repair in one class and taking the CISCO course offered there, also. This is very exciting news for him and also a bit unnerving as he is a bit anxious about doing well and taking the tests. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers that he will do well.
I am thinking that we will probably have some kind of casserole for our supper tonight. Either that or spaghetti. I like to start planning our evening meal early in the day so that I don't feel rushed at the last minute to come up with something to fix. I used to do that a lot when I was younger~LOL! I have tried to do menu plans in the past, but found that they were not my style. I do, however, have some family favorite menus that I use from time to time. I often pair up the same meat, veggie and side dish combos like my mom used to do for us growing up. I still find myself doing mashed potatoes and green beans with my meatloaf and also with my fried chicken just like she did. I still tell her, daddy and my mom-in-law that I love them and miss them almost every day. I guess I always will. I like to think that Jesus passes that message along to them for me.
That is all for now but I hope to be back tomorrow with another little post. This is wonderful for keeping my mind in writing mode and it does challenge me to take more notice of all those dear little things around me that make life so precious. I hope you all have a bright and blessed day!

Stay Cozy,

Testing....

This is a little test post: I am trying to get things straightened out on my blog so that I can again share my posts including the pictures that go along with them. I am not one for changes in my social media options...you all know that, right? LOL! Anyway, here goes....testing 1, 2, 3....

What in the World????? Who Messed Up BLOGGER?????

What the.....hello fellow bloggers....I posted earlier this morning and got ready to share the post on my Facebook page. When I pasted the link onto my page a photo of people who I don't even know showed up! WOW, what is going on with that? I know that it has been some time since my last post, but I never expected that things had changed here so drastically!!! What is going on and can someone please help this simple-minded country girl deal with and understand what I need to do in order to simply share a post. From my understanding I need to integrate my Blogger and Google Plus accounts and then be reassigned a new blog link? Will I lose everything from my blog? Will I have to start all over again? I am almost in tears right now! Too old for all of these changes....I just need life to remain as simple as possible. I need lots of help right now. Please leave any helpful (and simply worded~no code terms please) advice in the comments. (sigh) :-(

Wake Up Little Susie.....

Good morning my dear blog friends!

Happy Tuesday! I am having a really hard time waking up this morning as I took a Benadryl last night before I went to bed. I very rarely do this but my eczema was really flaring, painful and itchy so I took a 50mg tablet and fell into a deep sleep. I didn't even rouse during the night and woke up at 8:00 AM which is really late for me~WOW! I am on my second cup of good old coffee and see a third one happening in my near future. My eczema is always worse during the summer months with all the pollen, heat and humidity. I know that for some it is better, but for me those conditions equal much more itching, scales and oozing (sorry to get gross, but that is the reality of eczema, folks). I have been finding some relief with extra virgin olive oil, but yesterday I tried soaking my feet in warm salt water because I had read about it on an online forum. I WON'T be doing that one again~OUCH! Even the coat of olive oil didn't ease the pain of it! I probably used too much salt. It was table salt and not Epsom salt, too. I have used Epsom salt before and it is soothing, but the post specifically said to use iodized table salt for this one. The poster said that it stopped their itching and oozing and made their skin feel great. So much for truthfulness on the web~HaHa! Anyway, it is feeling better this morning and is not itching any more.

I am planning on getting back to some form of posting here. Maybe even a line or two a day and hopefully some posts concerning decorating and housekeeping since that was the original vision of my little home on the blog. I do miss writing here and reading your blogs, too. I remember the wonderful world that blogging opened up to me in 2006 when I discovered all of the wonderful people out there on the internet sharing their daily lives, hopes and dreams via their beautiful "web logs". I have so many dear friends on FB that I have met from these wonderful places on the net. Some of them I now call "sisters" (you all know who you are, girls). So I hope to never just give up posting here altogether. I am just kind of slow on the draw these days, I guess~lol!
I will close for now, but wish you all a very bright and blessed day wherever you may be. Hope to be back here tomorrow with another snippet of news from my little cottage. Love and hugs to you all!

Time of the Season.....

Happy Friday, cottage friends! I am just sitting here enjoying the last few sips of my coffee and reflecting on the sweetness of  the morning stillness. You all know this is my very favorite time of the day! I was just thinking about how sweet our summer has been. No major drama or anything really too exciting; just the gentle grace of ordinary days! Our little garden has produced enough to help with our veggie needs, Caleb and Robin have really bonded over lawn care this year, we have had fun days with family and friends stopping by; so many good memories! It has been most lovely, indeed!
Last night the three of us went out to supper at The Cracker Barrel restaurant nearby. My sweet hubby Robin had Baked Steak and Gravy, son Caleb had a big Rib Eye Steak and I had Breaded Fried Shrimp~MMMmmm!!! When we got home I got out my cinnamon candle and burned it for the first time this season. I had switched over to a floral Lilac scent for the Spring/Summer season and had really been enjoying that beautiful aroma, but last night's visit to the good ol' CB sparked my interest in all things Autumn to the next level~lol! As the fragrant spice wafted through our house I realized how truly ready I am for Fall! I am even going to hang up my new wreath today and start changing out the flowers on our front porch. There is just something magical about this time of the year!
I want to take a minute to wish everyone a Happy Labor Day weekend!!! We are planning a cookout here tomorrow with our children and their families and we have one of our Grandsons coming over to spend the weekend with us tonight, as well. My hubby is out right now getting our good old van inspected and a fresh new sticker put on it. We have annual vehicle inspections here in WV. My son is still asleep upstairs and the house remains still for the moment, anyway. Life is very serene for now and I am loving it!!! Sending you much love, hugs and prayers for your day and your weekend!!!

For Today......

Good morning and Happy Friday, blog buddies! Well, I kind of got away from my daily posting; I guess I sometimes feel that my daily life is a bit too routine and boring to share. I am a creature of habit these days~lol! I did have a good week and did lots of good cooking along with my never ending battle with Mount Laundry around here. Who would think that three people would have so many loads of laundry in a week! Sheesh!!! (Heehee)
I have been giving a lot of thought and prayer to once again offering some light design and color consultations to clients again. It has been almost 5 years since I have done any sort of decorating or design services outside of my home. I would simply LOVE to have ladies call on me once again to come to their homes and give them color and decorating advice. I cannot do anything with heavy lifting involved and my days of furniture and accessory sales is over, but I sure could do lots to help give them steps in the right direction for creating the home they are longing to create. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers about this matter.
Today I am fixing a BIG crock pot full of good Beef Veggie Soup for our supper and am going to make some homemade Cheesy-Bread slices to go with it, too. I am reading lots of my mom's beautiful poetry books in my spare time. She did not write poetry, she LOVED to read poetry and was given many lovely books filled with inspiring verses throughout the years. I am hoping to start sharing some of them on here and on my Facebook page over the next few weeks. This is what is new around my sweet cottage. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Lots of Hugs and Stay Cozy,

Is it Foggy Out There; Or is it Just Me????

Good morning, Honey-Bunnies.....not a long post this morning. I am just TOO foggy on the brain~ick! I am over on FB posting all sorts of pretty pictures and sweet greetings. That what you have to LOVE about FB: no matter how foggy, sore, sick or otherwise just icky you might feel you can always find something cheery and beautiful to post there to encourage and inspire your friends. I find such joy in doing that! Much love to everyone today. Hope to be able to type a longer post for you all tomorrow.

Rainy Tuesday...

Rain, rain go away....oh, wait a minute; we NEED that rain!!! Our little backyard garden is SO very thankful for a good, long drink! LOL!!! Good morning and Happy Tuesday, cottage friends!!! We have been getting a good soaking rain since last night around 9:00 or so. We had some lightning and thunder last night, but now it is just dark and drizzly out there. I was supposed to go to Wine Cellar Park this morning for a special meeting of my Ladies Bible Study group, however I do think that will be cancelled. So I am just having a second cup of good, hot coffee and enjoying my time here on my computer blogging and visiting with everyone on Facebook for a while.
I am feeling a bit sluggish this morning; no doubt due to our soggy weather. I am one of those people who just loves to nap on rainy days. I do have work to get done around here but I know that I will most likely get in a little snooze this afternoon sometime. I am thinking of watching some of my old favorite movies while folding laundry later on. I haven't watched Heidi in a while so I might have to pop that one in! (smile)
I am leaving you with a picture of my little Avocado tree that I grew from a seed. It is the first time I have ever successfully grown one though I have tried many times before. It does take a long time for them to finally sprout. This one took a couple of months and lots of watering and sunshine. I am hoping that it grows really BIG! I know that it will most likely never produce Avocados, but I am looking forward to having this pretty tree among my houseplants in our dining room. I will close for now but am wishing you all a pleasant day and hope that you will accomplish whatever you set out to do with much joy and gratitude!

Much Love and Stay Cozy!

Monday, Monday......

Good morning and Happy Monday my lovelies! Well, I hate to tell you all this, but all of my weekend entertaining with my sweet little grand-girl finally caught up with me yesterday. My Fibromyalgia flared in a RAGE!!! I felt just like someone had pushed me down a mountain and then ran over me with their four-wheeler~OUCH!!! I did make myself get in that kitchen to prepare the homemade biscuits and gravy that I had promised her, my hubby helped and he fried up a big pan of bacon for us, too. I am SO thankful to God for that man!!! I took her picture on the front porch in her favorite dress-up outfit, too but then I had to retire to my sofa for a nice L-O-N-G nap! Her pawpaw took her home so I got to sleep for a good while in the afternoon. I do love having my grands around, but I am just not the great "entertainer" that I used to be when the older ones were little. :-(
When I woke up from my nap I watched some HGTV and had a little chicken salad sandwich. I got an old decorating book down off my "design library" shelf to look through and just enjoyed a little time to myself. The book is one that my mom gave me a few years ago; New Creative Home Decorating by Hazel Kory Rockow, Ph.D. Mom bought it when she was a young homemaker in the 1950s but the design basics and advice given remains true to this day. If you ever run across a copy it is a good one to read.
I am feeling a bit better this morning, but still pretty achy and my hands keep going numb so it has taken me a while to type this post. I am determined, however to not give up my daily blog notes! Wishing you all a lovely Monday!!!! I will leave you with a picture of my pretty grand-girl to make you all smile!

Sunday Morning....

Good morning! I am up and enjoying the sweet silence of this Sunday morning before everyone wakes up. I have my usual coffee and toast beside me and just wanted to type a bit on my blog to keep in practice. It feels so good to be back at it that I don't want to let one morning pass without writing a little something, anyway.
Yesterday was such a GOOD day; we did have our pancakes and homemade cinnamon syrup for breakfast and then Miss Kayleigh and I watched a couple of movies together. She picked The Wizard of Oz and I picked Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (starring Donny Osmond, of course)!!! You just gotta love a young grand-girl who can appreciate good cinema!!! Later in the day we took her to a park so she could swing and we gathered some wild Hickory Nuts and cracked open a couple to eat. Makes you wonder about how many old Euell Gibbons must have had to crack and eat back in the day in order to get full~LOL!!!! Afterward we went to another favorite park and took a very short hike along the nature trail there. My hubby's hip was really bothering him and it was a tad too hot out there for us, so we called it a day and came home to air conditioning and pop-sickles.
I am getting ready to fix some biscuits and gravy for us this morning. We don't usually have big breakfasts every morning but I try to fix something nice when any of the grands spend the night with us. That is what memories are made of, right? (smile) I hope that you are all enjoying your day and I hope to type a little bit more tomorrow. Hugs to all!!!

Sweet Saturday Musings...

Good morning and Happy Saturday, sweet friends!!! We made it through another week and now it is time for a wonderful weekend! YAY!!! I no longer work outside our home-sweet-home, but there is still something SO serene about Saturday mornings. I woke up around 5:45 and tiptoed down our stairway to my good old computer. My Fibromyalgia was RAGING so I tuned into YouTube to find some light stretching exercises that I could do to help ease things up a bit. I did these along with Dick Nunez and they seemed to help a LOT!
We have our beautiful grand-girl, Kayleigh with us this weekend and I will be making her favorite breakfast of Homemade Pancakes in just a little bit when she gets up. We had such fun last night playing board games and card games. She brought her new bracelet loom and we had a time trying to make rubber band bracelets together. I tried to teach her how to crochet too, but considering that I, myself can only make one very L-O-N-G chain I am afraid that I am not a really great teacher~hahaha!  She is left-handed and I am right handed so we had fun trying to flip things around, too! She did catch on to it pretty well, though.
Well the kids (Kayleigh and our Caleb) are up now and watching some cartoons together in the family room and I must now turn my attention to those good-old-pancakes. Saying good day to you all and hope your Saturday is lovely!!! It does seem so good to be back blogging with you all!

Much Love and Stay Cozy!

Front Porch Friends

Good mornin', good mornin' to you!!!!Hope everyone is having a great one so far! I am up and have had my toast and some coffee and am currently having fun visiting with everyone on FB! I truly enjoy my little morning routine!!! It is so good to "see" friends and family and catch up a bit with everyone over there!
Yesterday we had a surprise visit from some of our very favorite homeschool friends!!!! It was so cool as I had been chatting a bit on FB about how I missed friends and neighbors just stopping by for visits on the front porch. We stayed inside for most of the visit, but my hubby just couldn't resist showing off our veggies in the back yard and sharing some 'maters and peppers with them. We sure had fun talking and laughing and just catching up with each other face to face for a while!!!!
Speaking of  front porches; I am sharing another one of my pictures from a couple of weeks ago when I spruced up our pretty front porch with some beautiful bedding that I am no longer using in our bedroom to take some long-overdue pictures out there. This morning I would like to introduce you to Isabella; Queen of Spain! She is my lovely Uneeda Spanish Queen doll from 1969! She was one of my favorite dolls and BOY was I so surprised that Christmas morning when I found her waiting for me in our living room!!! She is just as beautiful today as she was way back then; don't you think?
Well, I will close for this morning but hope to be back tomorrow with another mini-post for you all. I do enjoy blogging but will just have to keep working on getting back in the habit of writing again~lol! Wishing you all a wonderful Friday and a sweet weekend!!! ((Hugs))

Stay Cozy!

Thursday Thoughs

Good morning sweet cottage friends!!! Well, here I am back at the old blog....bet you thought you'd never see hide nor hair of me again but here I am~lol! I have really been having some rough days with my hands hurting and being numb lately but I am trying to push past it and do so long to be active with my writing/blogging again. I do read your beautiful blogs at least once a week at the good old Blogger dashboard so I am not completely out of the loop.
We have been having a very pleasant summer here~lazy, but pleasant! Our little garden is doing well and the weather has been fairly enjoyable even with the long stint of rain we had back in early July. Our tomatoes really LOVED that and as a result are really sweet and juicy!
I am going to try and post a little something each morning again. I really do miss writing and blogging about our life around here. I am hoping that it will help my hands and my brain fog as well. For now I will leave you with some photos I took a couple of weeks ago on our good old front porch. Hope that you all are having a great week!!!!

Simply Susie~Q (Story Number One)

Good morning, sweet cottage friends! As promised I will begin sharing my stories with you. I am hoping to post one story a week and am trying to do them in some semblance of chronological order from the time I was around three years old until the age of ten or so. They represent only a slice of my life as a child in the 1960s in small-town USA and I hope that they will be a blessing to you all in some small way.

Simply Susie~Q was a funny little girl who lived in a pretty green house nestled in a valley among the hills of West Virginia along with her beautiful mother, handsome daddy and her younger brother. She found joy in the simple, everyday events and moments in her world and found them to be most wondrous and magical. She and her mother and little brother shared many pleasant days together doing all sorts of fun things at home while their daddy was busy at work.
One day in the early summer when the leaves were very green on the BIG maple trees in their back yard, her mother spread a huge brown and red plaid blanket on the ground just beneath the trees and they had a picnic. Her mother had fixed them sandwiches, cheese, grapes and an orange cool-aid drink served in her favorite purple aluminum tumbler. Susie~Q was enchanted by the sounds of the birds singing among the branches of the trees. Her brother was still quite little and asleep on the blanket close to their mother.
Mother (whom Susie~Q called "Mommy") was always full of surprises and had lots of fun things to share with her children. During their picnic that day she had fun showing her little daughter how to look for four-leaf-clovers among the clusters of clover in their yard and how to make a grass blade whistle between her thumbs.
After they had finished eating their lunch, Mommy mixed some green dish liquid with water in a bowl and they blew bubbles through an empty wooden thread spool! Susie~Q giggled as the bubbles floated off into the air on a gentle breeze. She was fascinated by the pretty bubbles and the way that they sparkled and reflected the light and the colors all around.
It was truly a delightful afternoon and filled with lots of fun and sweet moments. Susie~Q couldn't wait for Daddy to get home from work so that she could tell him all about it!
